Madison is six weeks old today! There are some new pictures posted from Halloween. Madison has found a new way to
help mama and daddy when they try to change her or clean her. When they are trying to put clothes on her she has learned
how to alternately go from cannonball position to superman position every two or three seconds... Also when they try to
clean her face if they touch the left side of her face she turns to the right and visa versa... Very helpful indeed.
Madison has started smiling but she still needs practice. She also has added a few sounds to her vocabulary and continues
        to talk more each day.

Maddie went to the doctor today. Mama was concerned about a rash on her face. She was also concerned
that two months between her first and second doctors visit was too long. Mama liked the new doc very much and Maddie
seemed to as well. Madison was prescribed hydro-cortizone for her face. We also found out that she is in the 95
percentile in growth... So it's not just our imagination that she's a healthy eater and a big girl... She has grown
a 1/2 inch and now weighs in at 11lbs 4oz. Fifteen percent weight gain in a month isn't too shabby. The doctor also
said that he thought Madison was advanced because she was baby-talking already. Whatev... Just sounds like gibberish
to me... ;) Madison's gas output has started to approach the prodigiousness of her brother so mama asked the doc about
this too. It would seem that it's just her systems fully coming on line. I have a few diapers in the back I'd like to
present to the doc as evidence that her systems are fully functional!

The other day Mandi found a new way to get Madison to sleep during the day without having to hold her. Prepare to gulp and chastise us!
She sleeps really well on her tummy. She only sleeps this way during the day and only when we are near by...

After Madison came home she began eating large volumes of formula. She sleeps anywhere from 1 to 4 hours straight. Usually 2 to 3 at a time.

She weighed in at 12 lbs. 11.8 ozs. (She's lost a couple ounces since the last time mama too her to the doc - that was about two weeks ago). She measured in at 23 and a quarter inches! She has grown two and a quarter inches in two months! The doc was very happy with her numbers. She got 3 shots today and one oral vaccination. She was NOT happy about the shots. Daddy thought she wouldn't cry till the second one but she cried with the first one. Mama teared up a little bit... Then for the rest of the day she was pretty mellow and slept a bit more than normal.

Happy Christmas and Glur Glur

Madison has begun talking and above are some of her new words... Madison has now enjoyed both her first Christmas and First New Year's! Nana and Papa came to visit and Pau Pau and Grandpa Kurt spent the holidays with us. Madison wasn't terribly interested in the festivities but she did wake up at 12:55 to help us all enjoy the arrival of 2009! Madison continues to blow bubbles and she is starting to become aware of her hands. She's stopped sleeping through the night most nights and Daddy is considering the application of cereal with her evening meal... Madison is growing! Mandi and I both confirmed her weight at just over 15 pounds! Yes!!! She has almost doubled her weight in under three months!!! OH EM GEE!!! We picked up a Jumperoo for her. Huh? It's a contraption with a spring supported seat that we can put her in and she can try to jump around and spin. Mommy was able to pick on out at Babies R Us by putting her in every jumpy seat in the store for a real world test... She seems to like it. This idea came because when we hold her in our laps she tries to stand up and can support her own weight easily. She's just a little balance challenged right now...
Madison was also able to make her first visit to Santa at the Padres Kids Christmas party. Santa gave her a vibrating pull string rattle toy. She like to watch and listen to it vibrate...

You want an update every week??

Okay, so Maddie went on her first sailing outing. It would seem that she's not totally down with the life jacket just yet... However she did eventually eat, sleep and smile. She even pulled on a Jib Sheet... She didn't get sunburned so overall the outing was sort of a success... Lately Madison has avoided any semblance of a schedule. In the last week she's woken up on various nights at 10pm, 12am, 1am, 2am, 3am, 4am, 5am, 6am, 7am and 8am... She continues to drool like a fool and we've given her Orajel a few times. Not sure it's helping or not. Mandi has brought Maddie down for lunch a few times and they've been going to the park in our neighborhood. She has Swinged, swang?, and slid, slided?, down the slide. She likes to swing better than sliding... Maddie is looking forward to seeing her Grandma and Grandpa, Ray's parents, next weekend, and she looks forward to meeting her aunt Tara.

Rolley Poley

Madison has learned a new trick. The other day I'd set her on my bed while I was getting dressed for work. I turned around and she's on her side and rolling onto her tummy. This isn't that big a deal because gravity helped. Then I turned around again and she's on her back... WOW! Do that again! She didn't but that's okay.

She has started to sleep in her crib at night. Daddy is happy about this because he doesn't have to tiptoe around his room at night. Plus it's nice to finally use that expensive crib we bought... A couple times now we've gone in to get her and she's been on her back. Or she's scooted around far from where we left her. She must be an active sleeper.

She still sleeps through the night most nights but often wakes up just to cry a little bit then goes back to sleep. I think she just doesn't want us to forget about her.

She had her four month checkup last week and she is now over 17 pounds and 26 inches. She is still in the 95 to 97 percentile for weight and length.... Despite her size her proportions are perfect, to her head for example, so she's just a big healthy girl. She got a few more shots on this visit and although she still doesn't like shots it went a little better than last time.

She continues to be a very alert and curious little girl. She watches everything we do and often her head is pivoting back and forth so she doesn't miss anything. She likes to watch the cats. She's also getting better coordination with her hands and has begun grabbing her bottle and other items to stuff in her mouth.

What has one tooth and squeals like a nut?

That would be Madison Ebert!

We have a tooth! Bottom right front. Can barely see it but we can feel it! Maddie has begun to chew anything she can get near her mouth, which is quickly becoming anything that is within range or her chubby little hands. Daddy found the tooth during his regular inspection of her gums last week (looking for teeth...)

Last weekend we were in Costco and Madison decided she'd found her volume settings. She was yelling at the top of her little lungs seemingly just to hear herself. She'd let go with a serious yell then giggle at herself. She sounded like she was having a grand old time. It's a very distinct sound from her upset wails. Now when she wakes up in the morning, and pretty much any time she's on her back, she's exercising her yelling muscles with a smile on her face!

Baby Teeth Part Deux

Last week we found another tooth. It's right next to the first tooth. So now she can almost chew on something!

We've started trying to get more solid food into her regularly. So far she only marginally like Rice Cereal from a spoon. She is not a big fan of apples and frankly neither am I. I think they are mashed up granny smith apples so they're kind of bitter. She does seem to like Sweet potatoes so we're going with that for now. We also picked up some pears but we haven't tried those yet. We're still learning how to feed with and eat from a spoon.

She is rolling over more often now, often when we go get her from her crib she has rolled over. She is almost sitting up. She can balance for a little while before falling over. It's kinda funny when she falls over because she doesn't put her hands out or turn her head or anything. She just tips over [boink]. Of course she's never sitting on anything harder than the couch...

6 Months Already?

Wow! It's been a couple months since our last update. So sorry to leave ya all hangin'! Mama got a new PC laptop, so updates should be a little more frequent (that's the plan anyway).

Madison turned 6 months old on April 3. She had her 6 month check up on April 8 and is doing great! Pau Pau was in town that week, so she got to go to the check up too. :) Madison measured 26 and a quarter inches long and 19 pounds 4.8 ounces. For her height, she's in the 80th percentile and her weight is in the 95th percentile. She's a happy healthy baby! She got three shots that day and an oral vaccination too. Her next round of immunizations isn't until she turns a year old. We go back to see the doc when she's 9 months old at which time they'll check her blood.

Madison is regularly eating solid foods. We do oatmeal cereal and add some kind of baby food to it. We usually do that mix for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The amount varies- somewhere between 1-3 scoops of cereal. With each meal she gets a 6 to 8 ounce bottle and also an afternoon snack bottle. We also give her Trader O's (Trader Joe's version of Cheerios) that she feeds to herself. Mama also gives her little tastes of whatever we're eating. So far there hasn't been anything that she doesn't really like...except those baby food peas. She'll eat them, but not too happy about it (I don't blame her!!). But- if you mix 'em with sweet potatoes, it helps.

She's ready to crawl! She hasn't quite mastered it yet, but she can get up on all fours and lunge and scoot her way to whatever she's got her eyes on. If she doesn't start crawling, she'd be happy to walk instead.

Lots of babbling goin' on too. It's the cutest thing to hear her "talking" to herself or to whoever is listening.

Yesterday, we all went sailing. Took a couple of Sam's buddies with us. Madison is a trooper. She has to wear this bulky life vest the whole time we're out there (4 HOURS!). She must like it out there on the boat...she fell asleep twice.

Today, we took her for her first swim meet. She seemed to have enjoyed her first trip to the pool. She got dunked a couple times and didn't even let out a peep. She was kickin' away with her strong little legs too.

Finally!

Lately I've been crawling a lot and pulling myself up on everything. This has taken my mommy and daddy a bit by surprise. Now they are always following me around and moving things right when I get to them! Grrr.

A couple weeks ago I got to ride on a plane for the first time. I wasn't that impressed... But when we got to Oakland I had a really fun time grabbing everything on Pau Pau's table. Her books are really fun to chew on!

Almost 9

Hmmm...so much for updating more regularly, eh? The intent was there. ;)

Madison is almost 9 months old. She started really crawling around 7 months. Between 6 and 7 months it was kind of a slow, crab crawl thing. She had one knee down and one leg out, kind of back and out to the side. For some reason, it made me think of a crab. She still uses this technique for getting around on hard floors. Smart girl...she can't get good traction with both knees down.

Yeah, so...she's mastered crawling and pulling herself up to standing. She also walks around the coffee table like an old pro. It's been interesting watching her progression. When she first started pulling herself up, she couldn't quite do it with things that move. For instance, a swivel chair or her jumpy seat. Now...no problem! That moving foot rest that is part of the rocker set...pffft! Next! hehe... Any day now, I expect to see her stand up on her own. She's already half way there.

She still only has two teeth. We thought she was teething a few weeks ago. But, nothing new has shown up yet. Still feeding her cereal mixed with some flavor of baby food. It seems like she has sort of figured out what those teeth are for...I've heard her crunching on her Cheerios to break them up instead of gumming them to death.

Books are no longer just things that go in her mouth. In fact, out of her pile of toys, one of her first stops is at the books. She likes to look at the pictures and turn the pages. Her other favorites are remote controls and still hangin' in there is her plastic Easter egg. Oh, and mama's cell phone. If you ever get a one ringer from me, it quite possibly could have been Madison making her first calls. ;)
